Single stone forms are beautifully complete just as they are. Look more closely and discover the opening of the vase. Glazed on the inside, they hold water for displaying a single stem of flowers, a branch of flowering quince or feathery grasses.
New in 2014, these Caldera Vases represent explorations in contrasts. The open forms continue to embody the stone-like qualities and balance themes consistent in my work. Yet they also explore the visual contrasts of heavy stone shapes with paper thin, torn edges, and the throw lines in the interiors repeating the striations on the outsides. Layered glazes on the inside complete the individualized effects.
